Plot twists are what makes a story interesting.
Just when we think we have the story figured out, the author throws in a big twist that we never saw coming -- and keeps us turning the page to see what happens next.
Without them, a story would be too predictable and boring. A real snoozer.
Life is better when it has a few plot twists too.
Moments that surprise and delight us, and keep us loving and living our best life.
Something completely unexpected.
Maybe even something out-of-character. (These kinds are sometimes the most fun!)
Something big or something tiny. It doesn't matter.
This is how many of our best memories are made.
I'm the kind of person who thinks she must consult a map before every road trip.
One Sunday last summer, I suggested to my husband that we hop in the car and go for a drive.
"Where are we going?" he asked.
"I don't know. Let's just take it turn-by-turn."
That's exactly what we did.
Whenever we felt like it, we turned either right or left. We drove for about three hours. It was a ton of fun because it was completely unexpected.
Along our journey, we discovered an out-of-the-way beach on Lake Michigan, a gem of a county park, and a fun Mexican restaurant that served up the best carne asada tacos I've ever eaten.
None of this would have happened if I hadn't decided to write a plot twist into my story.
How about you? What can you do to mix things up a bit and discover something unexpected?
Write it Out: Is life feeling a bit routine and predictable? Is it time for a plot twist of your own? If anything was possible (and there were no judgements allowed), what would you like to do? What would it take to make this happen for yourself?
