What It Feels Like Right Before Everything Changes in Your Business

I was stuck deep inside my Comfort Cave for months.
From the outside it looked like I had it all together and business was booming.
But on the inside, the same projects kept getting planned and re-planned, launches kept getting pushed off to next month and then the month after that, and I was organizing my CRM instead of having the conversations about my new offers that would have actually moved things.
My revenue was coasting instead of growing, and I was frustrated.
I closed my laptop each day feeling exhausted, but it wasn’t from working a lot. It was from finding ways to keep myself busy, and from the mental talking-to I gave myself each day about why my business wasn't growing.
Then one day, it was like a light switch flipped on, and suddenly I knew exactly what I needed to do to get back on track. I felt calm and energized at the same time, without one canceling out the other, and I had the clarity I was looking for.
It would be easy to dismiss this as a fluke, or as something that only happens to me. But it isn’t. I see it every time it happens to one of my clients. The waiting and the second-guessing fall away, and what’s left is clarity and the desire to take action.
Why This Moment Is Different From Motivation
This moment was definitely not a surge of motivation. Motivation is loud and energized, but it burns off within a day or two. This kind of moment moves at a different pace. It arrives feeling settled, feeling more like a decision that made itself rather than a decision someone had to talk themselves into.
This is why I don’t teach my clients how to chase motivation. Motivation is unreliable, and a business built on top of it just keeps a person spinning through the same avoidance loop, over and over.
What I watch for with clients is the self-trust underneath this moment. The light switch only flips once someone has done enough of the work to hear their own clarity over the noise of the Comfort Cave, and once that happens, they move like nothing can stop them.
How to Recognize It (And Not Talk Yourself Out of It)
Trusting the guidance of this moment once it shows up is harder than waiting for it. What it’s telling you to do and the ease at which you do it can feel overly simple. You may even wonder why you didn’t figure it out for yourself earlier.
A few things I tell clients to watch for:
The light switch arrival of the knowing feels calm and settled, without panic or pressure pushing you to move.
The action that follows takes less convincing than usual. If you find yourself negotiating with yourself for twenty minutes before doing the thing, that’s still the old pattern talking.
It shows up after a real period of spinning, once you’ve sat with your discomfort long enough to feel what the old way is costing you.
The knowing tends to show up once you’ve released your resistance to it. Focusing on it not being there yet just keeps it away longer. Practice loosening your grip on things having to happen a certain way, at a certain time.
Don’t wait around for that light switch feeling to arrive before you take action. I’m a big believer in the acronym ABC, which stands for Action Brings Clarity. Taking action is often what brings the real clarity, more than waiting around and thinking your way there ever does.
